Under The Sky So Blue

straystuff replied to your post: Playing video games doesn’t make you a nerd

I think it depends on who says it. Some girls ARE nerds but talk about it in cute way ‘cause they’re, well, girls. And a lot of people who talk that way used to be teased about liking nerdy stuff when younger. YOu can be pretty girly girl and a nerd.

I guess my point was a bit obscure (or I worded it wrong) What I mean to say is that I’m pretty sure the “real nerds” back then never called themselves nerds or prided themselves on it. It was a derogatory term used to label the awkward kid in the corner who was “weird” and painted Warhammer figures.

nowadays it’s become about “real nerds” calling out “fake nerds”, but I myself would never call myself a nerd because I still remember how miserable that label made me as a kid. I know the word has been reappropriated to mean something positive, but to me it’s the same as black (and hispanics, what are you even doing in this boat) people calling each other the N word and making it seem like a “positive” word, when in reaility it’s still a terrible word and demeaning and it shouldn’t be used.
